After working in the Middle East for nine years, entrepreneur Thomas Lundgren, had a dream in 1993 in which an angel came to him with a mission to “save the world from soulless, overpriced furniture retailers.” Well one can’t ignore an angel, so for the next two years he worked on his business plan and tried to get every bank and potential investor to understand his vision of a revolutionary home fashion brand. All he managed to do was collect a bunch of rejection letters, which today adorn the walls of THE One’s Dubai Head Office reception.
Following a lot of blood sweat and tears, the first THE One store finally opened in Abu Dhabi in 1996. When the hordes of adoring customers Thomas expected didn’t materialise, he realised that building a brand doesn’t happen overnight. And as the internet didn’t exist yet, the only way to reach customers was to open more stores – which we call ‘Theatres’, as each is a magical place with its own personality.
Today, THE One has proven that things do grow in the desert… We have a bunch of Theatres across the Middle East and North Africa and we’re not only growing, but also evolving. Currently, THE One family of brands consists of:
